Why Art and Music Education is Important

For the past ten years, public schools have had trouble funding school programs such as art class and music class. Not having at least some kind of music or art education gives kids a severe disadvantage when they enter college and the work place. In art and music classes, children learn to be creative and use other parts of their brain besides the logical part of the brain used in most school subjects. Also, studies have shown that music and art help kids in other subjects like science and math. Studies have shown, too, that art and music class can help kids gain confidence needed to succeed in school and in the professional world. Finally, in art class, students learn how to use tools like drafting chairs and drafting tables that many professionals use, such as architects and graphic designers. Therefore, it is essential that public schools make sure they get the funding they need to keep these programs alive.

Music and art classes teach kids about creativity. When children are being creative they are using a different part of their brain that they don't use in regular classes, like math and science. It is important to develop this creative part of the brain, so kids have a better chance at being successful in their chosen career path. For example, a child who wants to go into advertising as a career choice will need to have creativity to come up with new and innovative ads for a company. If kids only have an education in science, math, English, and social studies, then they will not be prepared for life after school.

There have been many studies that have proven that art and music education help kids do better in their regular classes. It is a fact that a good music education leads to better math grades. Art education helps teach children to be creative, which then helps them learn to come up with creative solutions to problems given to them in other classes. For example, in science class being creative would help the student come up with innovative and new hypothesis in class, which may result in better grades. Art and music class are important in helping teach children tools that can be applied to other classes.

Why Art and Music Education is Important

Tools that are used in the art classroom and instruments used in music class teach kids how to be responsible for expensive equipment that they will most likely be working with for future employers. For example, having a child be put in charge of a musical instrument helps teach the child responsibility and it helps teach them to be respectful of equipment that is not theirs. This is important because employers will expect there future employees to be able to be responsible and take care of any materials that will be on loan to the employee, like a computer, for example.

Public school boards need to make sure that music and art programs in their schools are well funded. Art and music education helps teach children the creativity that is needed for numerous jobs. Art and music classes also help teach children tools that can be used in other classes that will help improve their grades. Finally, using instruments and art supplies in these classes help teach kids responsibility and respect for items that are not theirs. Children who do not have any kind of music or art education will surely be at a disadvantage when entering college or the work force.

Piano Sheet Music With Letters for Beginners

Want to play the piano but don't think you have time to learn? If you know where the notes and keys are on the piano, piano music sheet with letters may be the perfect solution. Here's how it works:

Many music publishers offer sheet music that has the traditional notes printed on a staff. Inside the notes are printed the corresponding letters. Although children can use this sheet music, it's geared for the adult learner who has a basic awareness of notes, but has never learned to read music.

Imagine being able to sit down at the piano and play a simple jazz tune, a Christmas carol or even a show tune. If you know the letters of the scale and their corresponding place on the piano, you'll have instant success, without the trouble of reading music.

Piano Sheet Music With Letters for Beginners

Since the actual notes are written on the music as well as the letters, using this music is a good way to become familiar with the notes. Over time, you may find that you are able to read music without the help of the letters. Consider this sheet music like training wheels. It provides a simple, comfortable way to begin playing the piano that can eventually lead to greater proficiency.

As you play simple, familiar pieces, you'll also probably gain a deeper understanding of rhythm notes and other elements of piano sheet music. Once you're comfortable with this music, try playing a few pieces of simple, traditional sheet music without the letters. You may be surprised at how well you are able to read the notes.

Another option many children enjoy is the system of piano by numbers. Each key on the piano is labeled with a number and the music sheet is also labeled with corresponding numbers. Piano music by numbers offers almost instant gratification and builds children's confidence. Most children transition to traditional sheet music within a year.

Many adults who start with sheet music with letters find such enjoyment in it that they go on to take lessons to gain even greater mastery. Eventually, you must learn to read a piece of music just as you would a book. Rather than focusing on each individual letter or note, you must see the piece as a whole, broken into measures and passages.

For now, though, piano sheet music with letters is a great place to start. Whatever your goals, piano sheet music with letters can build confidence and increase your pleasure in music

Music Flats and Sharps on the Piano - What is the Difference Between a Flat and a Sharp?

The difference between a sharp and flat on the piano is the direction. Sharps go up, flats go down. Here is an easy way to remember the direction: "If you sit on a SHARP object you would stand UP. If you have a FLAT tyre, it has gone DOWN."

When you look at the piano you will notice that the black keys are grouped in 2 then 3, 2 then 3 over the entire length of the piano. 2 + 3 = 5. There are only 5 uniquely named black keys, then the whole pattern repeats itself.

Find any set of 2 black keys. The white key in the middle of these is called D. If you play the black key to the right of D, this is D sharp. D sharp is a higher sound than D. If you play the black key to the left of D, this is D flat. D flat is a lower sound than D.

Music Flats and Sharps on the Piano - What is the Difference Between a Flat and a Sharp?

Every black key has 2 names.

C sharp is the same black note as D flat.
D sharp is the same as E flat.
F sharp is the same as G flat.
G sharp is the same as A flat.

Can you work out the other name of A sharp?

Yes - it is B flat!

The symbol for a sharp in music is #. The symbol for a flat in music is a pointed letter "b". If you see these music symbols written in sheet music, they are written directly in front of the note.

Remember - "If you sit on a SHARP object you would stand UP. If you have a FLAT tyre, it has gone DOWN."

The Benefits of Music Therapy for Autism

A professional who specializes in autism can suggest different treatment for autistic's that can have a significant positive effect on their behavior. One such treatment is Music therapy.

Music therapy is a controlled music experience that is used to facilitate positive change in human behavior. Each session of music therapy is carefully planned, carried out, and evaluated to suit the specific needs of each patient. Music therapy can include any of the following musical activities:

o Listening to music and/or musical creation

The Benefits of Music Therapy for Autism

o Playing musical instruments (any instrument can be used)

o Moving to music

o Singing

As far as autism is concerned, studies have shown that music therapy has a significant, positive influence when used to treat autistic individuals. Participating in music therapy allows autistics the opportunity to experience non-threatening outside stimulation, as they don't engage in direct human contact.

As was previously mentioned, music therapy is made specific to each individual. This is extremely important, because what may be positively received by one autistic may be negative to another. That being said, let's take a look at the positive influence music therapy has had on autistic individuals.

Music therapy -

Improved socio-emotional development: In the first steps of a relationship, autistics tend to physically ignore or reject the attempts of social contact made by others. Music therapy helps to stop this social withdrawal by an initial object relation with a musical instrument. Instead of seeing the instrument as threatening, autistic children are usually fascinated by the shape, feel and sound of it. Therefore, the musical instrument provides an initial point of contact between the autistic and the other individual by acting as an intermediary.

Assisted in both verbal and non-verbal communication - When music therapy is used to aid in communication, its goal is to improve the production of vocalization and speech, as well as stimulate the mental process of comprehending, conceptualizing and symbolizing. A music therapist will attempt to establish a communicative relationship between the behavior of a child with autism and a specific sound. An autistic person may have an easier time recognizing or being more open to these sounds than they would to a verbal approach. This musical awareness, and the relationship between the autistics' actions and the music, has potential to encourage communication.

Another form of music therapy that may help with communication is to play a wind instrument (IE flute). It is thought that by playing such an instrument, you become aware of the functioning of your teeth, jaws, lips and tongue. Thus, playing a wind instrument almost mirrors the functioning required in order to produce speech vocalizations.

Encouraged emotional fulfillment - Most autistics lack the ability to affectively respond to stimuli that would otherwise allow them to enjoy an appropriate emotional charge. Thus, since most autistics respond well to music stimuli, music therapy has been able to provide autistics with an environment that is free of fear, stimuli considered threatening, etc.

During a music therapy session, an autistic individual has the freedom to behave in specific ways that allow them to discover and express themselves when they want and choose. They can make noise, bang instruments, shout and express and experience the pleasure of emotional satisfaction.

Musical therapy has also helped autistic individuals by:

o Teaching social skills

o Improving language comprehension

o Encouraging the desire to communicate

o Making creative-self expression possible

o Reducing non-communicative speech

o Decreasing echolalia (uncontrolled and instant repetition of the words spoken by another)

Keep in mind that although music therapy can have positive effects on autistic individuals, it is vital that an autistic receives such treatment from a trained and experienced musical therapist.

Mother and Son Wedding Songs: Music to Play For Your Mom at the Wedding

A wedding ceremony is never complete without those special songs and dances. Different parts of a wedding are enhanced by the music playing in the background. Choosing a song for each of these parts can be challenging at first. Let's discuss one of the most important wedding dances - the mother son dance - and how you can choose the perfect mother wedding song for you.

Mother Son Dance

This is a traditional dance shared by the mother of the groom and the groom himself. It is the groom's way of showing his love and appreciation for everything his mother has done for him. Putting a little time and thought into the process will mean so much to her.

Mother and Son Wedding Songs: Music to Play For Your Mom at the Wedding

How to Choose the Perfect Song

There are numerous mother wedding songs you can choose from, which can be overwhelming. Below are helpful tips to follow when choosing the perfect song for this important dance:

Always plan ahead. Some people might think that choosing a song for this dance is easy that they often take this task for granted. When it is time to decide which song to play, they may realize that it is not so easy after all! For instance, you might choose a song without realizing that the tempo is too fast for comfortable dancing. Make your choice in advance. Make a list. Start making a list of songs that will be suitable for a mother son dance. Feel free to include some popular songs. You can also ask your mother if there is a song she prefers. Show her your list and discuss things together. Get ideas. If you are having difficulty finding the right song for this particular dance, ask your friends, family members and/or fiancee for help. Browse the internet for websites about mother wedding songs. Are you going to hire a wedding DJ or a band? You entertainer can also provide you with songs that are commonly used for parent dances. Understand the message of the song. Although the songs you have on your list are about mothers and sons, it is still important to check the lyrics or message of the songs. Make sure it is appropriate for the relationship you have with your mother. Practice. After you have already chosen a song, take some time to practice the dance steps with your mom. You might also consider dance lessons so you can both perfect the dance before the wedding.

Popular Songs For A Mother Son Dance

Country Song - "Wish For You" by Faith Hill
Christian Song - "The Perfect Fan" by Backstreet Boys
Rock Song - "Old Time Rock and Roll" by The Beatles

Other Songs:

"Hero" by Mariah Carey

A mother son dance is an important dance because it showcases the love between a mother and child. The right choice of song will definitely help make this dance more memorable and heart-felt.

Free Trumpet Sheet Music - How to Find Printable Trumpet Music Scores on the Internet

Are you aware that there are many free trumpet sheet music scores available on the Internet? Let me give you some tips on how to search for trumpet music scores and what you can find to help you in your playing!

Free trumpet sheet music can be defined as printable scores that you can download without any obligations on your part. You will find some sites that offers sheets this way but many other sites call their music free with the requirement that you create some sort of free account to have access to their music.

You might also have to subscribe to their newsletter in order to make the music accessible.

Free Trumpet Sheet Music - How to Find Printable Trumpet Music Scores on the Internet

Completely free trumpet scores can be found if you take the time to search for them and if you have the patience to investigate the many search result pages that will come up.

Many of the best sites can be deep down in the search results for various reasons. One reason is that the site might be new and are not yet ranked so high on the search engines.

Another reason might be the that the webmaster have not optimized the site for the search engines with the keywords that you use when you search.

It is important for you to use the right keywords when you search and for the free trumpet sheet music sites to include these keywords on their pages in order for them to show up in your search results.

First you have to define for yourself what you want. Probably you want free trumpet scores that you can download and print out. Keywords to use in various combinations are, "free sheet music","scores", "trumpet", "easy" and "Bb instruments" which will give you more general sheets with transposed scores.

If you want to find melodies that are playable on trumpet you can also think of the range of your trumpet and compare it to other instruments with a similar range. Actually, it doesn't matter if they are Bb-instruments if you are not playing together with other instruments.

An art that you can develop is to play scores written for C-instruments and try to transpose them up a whole step. With practice you can sight read scores this way quite easily and this will make it possible for you to play together with other C-instrumentalists without having trumpet sheets available!

If you search on the Internet with the search terms mentioned you will find free sheet music sites offering trumpet scores for free or educational sites with sheets as part of their service!

In order to find these educational websites you might include search terms like "lessons", "learn to play" and you can also include search terms like "easy", "basic", "beginners" to find easy to play trumpet solos.

I have not included any examples of sites with scores but I suggest that you search with  patience for the free trumpet sheet music sites of your taste using search terms like the ones mentioned.

Your favorite sites might show up far down the search result lists but by bookmarking these sites you will have a library available with your favorite quality trumpet sheets!

How To Download Music To a MP3 Player - Download a Free MP3 Music Player Now

In looking to download music to a MP3 player the process is relatively easy once you learn the basics. First, you'll need to have all your connecting cables or docks, software and the music you want to download in place.

As not all portable devices are created equally, you may need your manual to tell you where to begin. This is especially true if you're a total newbie to a particular media player or to MP3 players in general. However, most portable devices usually work in the same manner, so in order to download music to MP3 players you should follow the same, or at least similar, steps.

Hopefully your MP3 player can hook up to your computer using a USB connection; this would be the easiest way to download music to a MP3 player. Just transfer music files as you would other files and documents to a removable disk drive and copy and paste.

How To Download Music To a MP3 Player - Download a Free MP3 Music Player Now

To have organized playlists here's a useful tip; before downloading music onto your MP3 player you can create the folders beforehand and just sequence the music into the folders while you're on your computer. This will save you valuable time in the long run because you'll be able to locate the songs you want to listen to very quickly.

The accompanying software is important because some computers will need them to recognize your MP3 player when you insert it as a USB drive. If you don't have the software - for example, you're using a different computer to download music or you were so excited to buy your MP3 player that you don't remember where you put your software CD - you can probably search for it online. Once your MP3 player is recognized, downloading music will be easy.

Creative Zen players work in this manner, but will ask the user to employ Creative Media Explorer to ease up the transfer of files from your computer to your MP3 player. Creative MediaSource Organizer, meanwhile, helps you organize your files on your computer before downloading the music onto your MP3 player. You can get these two devices by pressing the "Import Media" link.

iPod does it a bit differently but similar, of course, with iTunes, which is downloaded from the iPod website. iTunes is supposed to be the most popular method in managing your music files, but can also be a pain in the neck if you let it.

iTunes is your online music manager - it organizes all your music files in folders according to artist, album and other categories, lets you create and edit playlists, and even works as a music store by offering particular files for download. Next, you sync your iPod into your computer and all the music on iTunes automatically transfers into your iPod.

Interestingly, your computer reads your iPod as a removable disk drive connected through USB, which is exactly what it is, of course. If you find that you can't play particular songs on your MP3 player, it's most likely that it's DRM-protected. Digital Rights Management has a whole slew of limits and limited accesses, such as allowing certain files to play on iPods but not on Creative Zen players or RCA Lyras, and so on.

The simplest way around this is to download music only from the sites that are compatible with your portable device to ensure that you won't be wasting money buying downloadable music that you don't actually work on your MP3 player. More complicated methods could involve illegal activity, or breaking copy-right infringement laws, so tread carefully.

As stated before, getting music into a portable device follows a general procedure. And once you start to download music to a MP3 player you'll be amazed at how easy the entire process really is.

Fur Elise Piano Sheet Music, Piano Lesson For Beginners

Fur Elise is a very popular piano solo by Beethoven and many piano beginners want to learn how to play this piano sheet music. If you are committed to learn this composition even if you are a beginner piano student you have to practice in a way that will make the composition musically enjoyable. Here are a few tips on how to practice the piano notes to create a musical performance!

Beginner motivation

Many beginner piano students want to play this piano solo hearing other beginning pianist making the endeavor but this composition  only appears to be fairly easy. Technically it is not very rapid passages in the music notes but the actual musical interpretation of the piece often seems to be on a musical level that only appeals to the player himself.

Fur Elise Piano Sheet Music, Piano Lesson For Beginners

If you insist on learning this piece of music even if you are a note reading beginner but have the motivation necessary, what can you do? Here are some suggestions from my own experience with having motivated beginner music students!

Listen to Fur Elise

The most important part of learning this piano piece is to create music as you perform. This is a piece of music that has been played so many times by people who just barely made it through. They played on a very basic musical level because they were not really prepared musically to play this piece of music. Fur Elise contains hidden musical challenges for the piano beginner even if the sheet music appears to be fairly easy technically.

I suggest that you listen to a good piano performer that will help you understand how to create music and making music notes come alive. There are many versions of this piece available so you can listen to it with the aim to find the music that is hidden behind the notes! This will be your most important preparation!

The goal with listening is not to be able to copy the actual interpretation of Fur Elise from someone else but rather to help you be more aware of the music that is played and hear the composition in its musical context and of course enjoy the composition and let these feelings be present as you practice.

You learn what you practice

There are many ways to practice and learn a piano piece. How you practice will determine the results. If you know how to play piano notes fairly well you might play through the piece from beginning to end and you will have practiced reading piano sheet music but will probably never learn Fur Elise good enough to be able to perform in front of an audience.

I suggest that you practice one bar or maybe two at a time first with your right hand only and then your left until you can play the bars with ease and then you can proceed by slowly playing the bars with both hands. Connect the bars you have mastered as you go along!

To commit to memory or not

The Fur Elise piano sheet music can be played perfectly by a skilled pianist by just reading the music notes but ordinary beginner piano students will probably not learn to play this way because of poor sight reading skills. If you insist in learning the melody on a performance level I suggest that you commit the melody to memory as you practice the bars one at a time. Later on you can connect the memorized bars until you master the whole composition.

The biggest mistake is to make mistakes

I suggest that you always practice the piano sheet music slowly enough so that sloppiness will not creep into your playing. When you play slowly and correctly you will begin creating new pathways in your mind. If you play faster than your present piano skills allow you or if you start to play sloppy or without concentration you will make mistakes that will pollute these pathways and slow down your progress.

Create music as you practice

As you learn Fur Elise one or two bars at a time, learning to play the right keys and memorizing you might as well memorize your musical interpretation. That is, practice the mastered bars the way you would play them in front of an audience!

The most important part of learning to play piano is actually to create music that you yourself and your audience want to listen to. If you practice every bar with this musical goal in your mind you will enjoy the journey as well as the accomplished goal to learn how to play Fur Elise as a musically enjoyable piece of piano sheet music!
