Special Education Lesson Plans

Special education lesson plans are specially designed teaching methods or educational techniques for students of all age groups, with mild to profound disabilities. The lesson plans would vary depending upon the child's nature, age, and the extremeness and type of disability. These lesson plans are mainly meant to promote student engagements, to prepare students to function independently and to master skills, to build and support social competence, and to help children and their families lead a problem free life. Special education lesson plans include math, science, music, language and art lessons, computers and the Internet, social studies, physical education and health, and other multi-disciplinary lessons.

Special educators should design presentations to cater to different levels of individual disability. Music, dance, and other art forms are great aids to enhance learning in students with disabilities. Reading, writing, and public speaking can be encouraged by special educators. Well thought out lesson plans will enhance the child's reasoning ability and reading skills, feelings and response, create a sense of personal fulfillment, encourage language development, promote communication, help to achieve motor control and physical wellness, and cultivate positive attitudes towards the school.

The response of disabled students towards the curriculum depends on the nature of the disability, i.e., physical, emotional or cognitive. A good teacher can encourage each student to participate in the learning experience not only with the assistance of well-adapted materials, but also with proper instructional methods which would be practicable in a disabled individual.

Special Education Lesson Plans

One can find sample lesson plans for special education students in books, articles, and on the Internet; however, these lesson plans are to be modified to suit individuals. A special education teacher can design individual activity sheets for each child in consultation with physical therapists, counselors, doctors, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, and social workers.

Guitar Lessons For Beginners - Easy Two Chord Country Songs to Play on Guitar

What better place to start learning country guitar than with two chord songs using easy chord shapes; the problem is finding songs with easy chord shapes.

Often the best approach is to select a song and use a capo to convert difficult chord shapes into guitar friendly chords.

Regardless of how difficult the chords may look in the sheet music it's relatively easy to change then into chord shapes you like to play.

Guitar Lessons For Beginners - Easy Two Chord Country Songs to Play on Guitar

Here we go:

Easy two chord country songs with simple chord shapes

Achy Breaky Heart

A /// | A /// | A /// | E /// |

E /// | E /// | E /// | A /// ||

A chord

---0----
---2----
---2----
---2----
---0----
---x----

E chord

---0----
---0----
---1----
---2----
---2----
---0----

Let's say you find the "A" shape chord awkward to play no matter how hard you practice your fingers don't seem to fit behind the second fret on the second, third and fourth strings; a simple solution would be to use a "G" shape chord with the capo placed behind the second fret.

With a capo placed behind the second fret you could use easy chord shapes like "G" & "D" and now Achy Breaky Heart would look like this:

Achy Breaky Heart (capo 2nd fret)

G /// | G /// | G /// | D /// |

D /// | D /// | D /// | G /// ||

G chord

---3----
---0----
---0----
---0----
---X----
---x----

D chord

---2----
---3----
---2----
---0----
---x----
---x----

This version of Achy Breaky Heart would most likely suit many guitarist as the "G" shape chord is often easier to play than the "A" especially if you have big fingers.

By using the capo in this way you as still playing the song in the same key as the recorded version only using easier chord shapes.

Here's another song to try, do you notice anything familiar? Deep In The Heart Of Texas has exactly the same chord progression as Achy Breaky Heart!

Notice how I create chord progression templates with four bar to a line, it's easy to spot chord progression similarities when you set out your songs this way, it also makes it easy to remember them.

Deep In The Heart Of Texas

A /// | A /// | A /// | E /// |

E /// | E /// | E /// | A /// ||

Another two chord country favorite is Jambalya:

Jambalya

E /// | E /// | B7/// | B7/// |

B7/// | B7/// | E /// | E /// |

E /// | E /// | B7/// | B7/// |

B7/// | B7/// | E /// | E /// ||

B7 chord

---2----
---0----
---2----
---1----
---2----
---x----

I've presented Jambalya in the key of E which would be quite difficult to play for the beginner guitarist, this would be another instance when using a capo would be the recommend way to go.

Solution: Place the capo behind the second fret and use the following chord progression.

Jambalya (capo 2nd fret)

D /// | D /// | A7/// | A7/// |

A7/// | A7/// | D /// | D /// |

D /// | D /// | A7/// | A7/// |

A7/// | A7/// | D /// | D /// ||

A7 chord

---0----
---2----
---0----
---2----
---0----
---x----

Did you notice that although "Jambalya" seems to be a more complicated chord progression, in reality it's just the first eight bars repeated again!

The templates for each of these songs are not simplified versions of the songs they are exactly the same progressions used on the recordings and as you can see when songs are presented this way it's very easy to remember the chord progression and play them on the guitar.

Bible Lessons For Kids - Ideas for Sunday School

There are many Bible lessons for kids that can have a powerful impact on the youth in your church. Kids today face many pressures in the public school system. Our youth are bombarded with commercial messages every day, and they constantly see violence and sex on television. If we don't teach our children to live for Jesus when they are young, they will fall for anything when they get older. This starts when children are young. It is harder to change as kids grow into teenagers and adults. Every Bible lesson will plant a seed that can grow and blossom in the early years of their life.

Here are some ideas for Bible lessons for kids you can try at your next Sunday school class.

Share a lesson within a fun game.
When you are dealing with younger kids, you have to get more creative with how you communicate with them. You would start the Sunday school class by teaching a lesson. Tell the kids there will be a question game at the end where they can win a prize. The child that wins the game gets the prize. The prize does not have to be anything big. You should make the prize small.

Bible Lessons For Kids - Ideas for Sunday School

Teach a Sunday school class about the love of Jesus.
It is easy for kids to assume that being a Christian is all about the things you can't do. Kids are taught the ten commandments. They hear famous Bible stories like Sodom and Gomorrah where an entire culture is destroyed because of their disobedience. These Biblical stories need to be taught in class, but kids need to know about the love of Christ too. There are many Bible lessons for kids where you can demonstrate the love of Jesus in many ways. Kids need to know that we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and savior, he saves us from our sins and cleanses us from all unrighteousness.

Show movie clips for sermons in kids church.
Older kids and youth will appreciate movies. There are many ways you can show movie clips within the Bible lessons for kids that can make a powerful impact on the viewers. If you are teaching a lesson on heaven and hell, you could show a video with a testimony from someone who has had an afterlife experience. Young people tend to have a short attention span, so you do not want to speak for 45 minutes. Preach a shorter sermon, and then show a video to tie the message together.

People that volunteer in kids church and Sunday School have a powerful impact on kids. The kids will look up to you as the teacher. Youth also look up to the youth leaders in the youth group. Youth in churches today are looking for answers. They are looking for a reason to live, and Jesus is the answer to most of their questions. Bible lessons for kids and youth are an awesome way to reach kids for Christ!

Does Music Help You Study?

Music can be of assistance when you study however it needs to be a relaxing music as you don't want to create distractions for the brain. Your favourite rock band where you sing along to all the lyrics for example is not a good choice. With this type of music you'll find that in order to study properly your brain will have to tune out the music and not engage in it.

Classical music is probably the most popular choice in this field of endeavour however it still must be slow and relaxing classical music. We want to create an atmosphere of calm moods and serenity in the room, somewhere you can feel completely at ease and concentrate on absorbing the information.

You can also use music to break up your study time. It's great for example to study for 40 minutes with music then 30 minutes without, each time you make a shift it will seem like a fresh study period and can actually help you study more effectively for longer.

Does Music Help You Study?

If pushed to choose most experts will agree that studying in silence is absolutely the best but if you wish to break up study time with some relaxing music it's fine. The best technique for study is generally to do it little and often throughout the day. The mind benefits from short periods of intensive study followed by breaks. During the breaks it's thought that the mind processes what's been learnt. When you return to study again for the second time it has a compound effect.

If you haven't yet tried relaxing music as a study aid then give it a go and see if it works for you.

New Teacher Tips - How to Set Up a Special Education Classroom

If your child is in a special education class, it is imperative that several things should be in order in order to maximize the learning conditions and subsequently their achievement.

In order to facilitate the learning, the classroom should have a special desk arrangement. Desks should be arranged in rows in order to minimize the amount of distractions caused by group and paired learning.

Another way to cater to the various levels is to set up a learning center around various stations that allow for hands-on fun or educational experiences depending on the educational background of the student. Learning centers should also provide a variety of activities and themes which ultimately makes the learning purposeful.

New Teacher Tips - How to Set Up a Special Education Classroom

An additional set-up arrangement is to put the teacher's desk in front of the class which allows for individual eye contact and body language.

In some special education classrooms, restroom facilities are located within the classroom. However, not all special education are set up in this way. However it can be a consideration should other arrangements be unsatisfactory.

As a new special education teacher, you'll want a classroom setup that encourages an effective engagement with minimal distractions. With children who need to deal with special learning adjustments, try for a new setup that is not too overwhelming for him/her to function. You'll want to also maintain control with the rest of the class as well.

Consider the kinds of activities that are systematic enough to help these kids thrive under a minimal number of classroom arrangement. Kids do not thrive well under too many unanticipated situations.

So what are you waiting for? Try it!

Why Art and Music Education is Important

For the past ten years, public schools have had trouble funding school programs such as art class and music class. Not having at least some kind of music or art education gives kids a severe disadvantage when they enter college and the work place. In art and music classes, children learn to be creative and use other parts of their brain besides the logical part of the brain used in most school subjects. Also, studies have shown that music and art help kids in other subjects like science and math. Studies have shown, too, that art and music class can help kids gain confidence needed to succeed in school and in the professional world. Finally, in art class, students learn how to use tools like drafting chairs and drafting tables that many professionals use, such as architects and graphic designers. Therefore, it is essential that public schools make sure they get the funding they need to keep these programs alive.

Music and art classes teach kids about creativity. When children are being creative they are using a different part of their brain that they don't use in regular classes, like math and science. It is important to develop this creative part of the brain, so kids have a better chance at being successful in their chosen career path. For example, a child who wants to go into advertising as a career choice will need to have creativity to come up with new and innovative ads for a company. If kids only have an education in science, math, English, and social studies, then they will not be prepared for life after school.

There have been many studies that have proven that art and music education help kids do better in their regular classes. It is a fact that a good music education leads to better math grades. Art education helps teach children to be creative, which then helps them learn to come up with creative solutions to problems given to them in other classes. For example, in science class being creative would help the student come up with innovative and new hypothesis in class, which may result in better grades. Art and music class are important in helping teach children tools that can be applied to other classes.

Why Art and Music Education is Important

Tools that are used in the art classroom and instruments used in music class teach kids how to be responsible for expensive equipment that they will most likely be working with for future employers. For example, having a child be put in charge of a musical instrument helps teach the child responsibility and it helps teach them to be respectful of equipment that is not theirs. This is important because employers will expect there future employees to be able to be responsible and take care of any materials that will be on loan to the employee, like a computer, for example.

Public school boards need to make sure that music and art programs in their schools are well funded. Art and music education helps teach children the creativity that is needed for numerous jobs. Art and music classes also help teach children tools that can be used in other classes that will help improve their grades. Finally, using instruments and art supplies in these classes help teach kids responsibility and respect for items that are not theirs. Children who do not have any kind of music or art education will surely be at a disadvantage when entering college or the work force.

Piano Sheet Music With Letters for Beginners

Want to play the piano but don't think you have time to learn? If you know where the notes and keys are on the piano, piano music sheet with letters may be the perfect solution. Here's how it works:

Many music publishers offer sheet music that has the traditional notes printed on a staff. Inside the notes are printed the corresponding letters. Although children can use this sheet music, it's geared for the adult learner who has a basic awareness of notes, but has never learned to read music.

Imagine being able to sit down at the piano and play a simple jazz tune, a Christmas carol or even a show tune. If you know the letters of the scale and their corresponding place on the piano, you'll have instant success, without the trouble of reading music.

Piano Sheet Music With Letters for Beginners

Since the actual notes are written on the music as well as the letters, using this music is a good way to become familiar with the notes. Over time, you may find that you are able to read music without the help of the letters. Consider this sheet music like training wheels. It provides a simple, comfortable way to begin playing the piano that can eventually lead to greater proficiency.

As you play simple, familiar pieces, you'll also probably gain a deeper understanding of rhythm notes and other elements of piano sheet music. Once you're comfortable with this music, try playing a few pieces of simple, traditional sheet music without the letters. You may be surprised at how well you are able to read the notes.

Another option many children enjoy is the system of piano by numbers. Each key on the piano is labeled with a number and the music sheet is also labeled with corresponding numbers. Piano music by numbers offers almost instant gratification and builds children's confidence. Most children transition to traditional sheet music within a year.

Many adults who start with sheet music with letters find such enjoyment in it that they go on to take lessons to gain even greater mastery. Eventually, you must learn to read a piece of music just as you would a book. Rather than focusing on each individual letter or note, you must see the piece as a whole, broken into measures and passages.

For now, though, piano sheet music with letters is a great place to start. Whatever your goals, piano sheet music with letters can build confidence and increase your pleasure in music

Music Flats and Sharps on the Piano - What is the Difference Between a Flat and a Sharp?

The difference between a sharp and flat on the piano is the direction. Sharps go up, flats go down. Here is an easy way to remember the direction: "If you sit on a SHARP object you would stand UP. If you have a FLAT tyre, it has gone DOWN."

When you look at the piano you will notice that the black keys are grouped in 2 then 3, 2 then 3 over the entire length of the piano. 2 + 3 = 5. There are only 5 uniquely named black keys, then the whole pattern repeats itself.

Find any set of 2 black keys. The white key in the middle of these is called D. If you play the black key to the right of D, this is D sharp. D sharp is a higher sound than D. If you play the black key to the left of D, this is D flat. D flat is a lower sound than D.

Music Flats and Sharps on the Piano - What is the Difference Between a Flat and a Sharp?

Every black key has 2 names.

C sharp is the same black note as D flat.
D sharp is the same as E flat.
F sharp is the same as G flat.
G sharp is the same as A flat.

Can you work out the other name of A sharp?

Yes - it is B flat!

The symbol for a sharp in music is #. The symbol for a flat in music is a pointed letter "b". If you see these music symbols written in sheet music, they are written directly in front of the note.

Remember - "If you sit on a SHARP object you would stand UP. If you have a FLAT tyre, it has gone DOWN."

The Benefits of Music Therapy for Autism

A professional who specializes in autism can suggest different treatment for autistic's that can have a significant positive effect on their behavior. One such treatment is Music therapy.

Music therapy is a controlled music experience that is used to facilitate positive change in human behavior. Each session of music therapy is carefully planned, carried out, and evaluated to suit the specific needs of each patient. Music therapy can include any of the following musical activities:

o Listening to music and/or musical creation

The Benefits of Music Therapy for Autism

o Playing musical instruments (any instrument can be used)

o Moving to music

o Singing

As far as autism is concerned, studies have shown that music therapy has a significant, positive influence when used to treat autistic individuals. Participating in music therapy allows autistics the opportunity to experience non-threatening outside stimulation, as they don't engage in direct human contact.

As was previously mentioned, music therapy is made specific to each individual. This is extremely important, because what may be positively received by one autistic may be negative to another. That being said, let's take a look at the positive influence music therapy has had on autistic individuals.

Music therapy -

Improved socio-emotional development: In the first steps of a relationship, autistics tend to physically ignore or reject the attempts of social contact made by others. Music therapy helps to stop this social withdrawal by an initial object relation with a musical instrument. Instead of seeing the instrument as threatening, autistic children are usually fascinated by the shape, feel and sound of it. Therefore, the musical instrument provides an initial point of contact between the autistic and the other individual by acting as an intermediary.

Assisted in both verbal and non-verbal communication - When music therapy is used to aid in communication, its goal is to improve the production of vocalization and speech, as well as stimulate the mental process of comprehending, conceptualizing and symbolizing. A music therapist will attempt to establish a communicative relationship between the behavior of a child with autism and a specific sound. An autistic person may have an easier time recognizing or being more open to these sounds than they would to a verbal approach. This musical awareness, and the relationship between the autistics' actions and the music, has potential to encourage communication.

Another form of music therapy that may help with communication is to play a wind instrument (IE flute). It is thought that by playing such an instrument, you become aware of the functioning of your teeth, jaws, lips and tongue. Thus, playing a wind instrument almost mirrors the functioning required in order to produce speech vocalizations.

Encouraged emotional fulfillment - Most autistics lack the ability to affectively respond to stimuli that would otherwise allow them to enjoy an appropriate emotional charge. Thus, since most autistics respond well to music stimuli, music therapy has been able to provide autistics with an environment that is free of fear, stimuli considered threatening, etc.

During a music therapy session, an autistic individual has the freedom to behave in specific ways that allow them to discover and express themselves when they want and choose. They can make noise, bang instruments, shout and express and experience the pleasure of emotional satisfaction.

Musical therapy has also helped autistic individuals by:

o Teaching social skills

o Improving language comprehension

o Encouraging the desire to communicate

o Making creative-self expression possible

o Reducing non-communicative speech

o Decreasing echolalia (uncontrolled and instant repetition of the words spoken by another)

Keep in mind that although music therapy can have positive effects on autistic individuals, it is vital that an autistic receives such treatment from a trained and experienced musical therapist.

Mother and Son Wedding Songs: Music to Play For Your Mom at the Wedding

A wedding ceremony is never complete without those special songs and dances. Different parts of a wedding are enhanced by the music playing in the background. Choosing a song for each of these parts can be challenging at first. Let's discuss one of the most important wedding dances - the mother son dance - and how you can choose the perfect mother wedding song for you.

Mother Son Dance

This is a traditional dance shared by the mother of the groom and the groom himself. It is the groom's way of showing his love and appreciation for everything his mother has done for him. Putting a little time and thought into the process will mean so much to her.

Mother and Son Wedding Songs: Music to Play For Your Mom at the Wedding

How to Choose the Perfect Song

There are numerous mother wedding songs you can choose from, which can be overwhelming. Below are helpful tips to follow when choosing the perfect song for this important dance:

Always plan ahead. Some people might think that choosing a song for this dance is easy that they often take this task for granted. When it is time to decide which song to play, they may realize that it is not so easy after all! For instance, you might choose a song without realizing that the tempo is too fast for comfortable dancing. Make your choice in advance. Make a list. Start making a list of songs that will be suitable for a mother son dance. Feel free to include some popular songs. You can also ask your mother if there is a song she prefers. Show her your list and discuss things together. Get ideas. If you are having difficulty finding the right song for this particular dance, ask your friends, family members and/or fiancee for help. Browse the internet for websites about mother wedding songs. Are you going to hire a wedding DJ or a band? You entertainer can also provide you with songs that are commonly used for parent dances. Understand the message of the song. Although the songs you have on your list are about mothers and sons, it is still important to check the lyrics or message of the songs. Make sure it is appropriate for the relationship you have with your mother. Practice. After you have already chosen a song, take some time to practice the dance steps with your mom. You might also consider dance lessons so you can both perfect the dance before the wedding.

Popular Songs For A Mother Son Dance

Country Song - "Wish For You" by Faith Hill
Christian Song - "The Perfect Fan" by Backstreet Boys
Rock Song - "Old Time Rock and Roll" by The Beatles

Other Songs:

"Hero" by Mariah Carey
"A Song for Mama" by Boyz II Men

A mother son dance is an important dance because it showcases the love between a mother and child. The right choice of song will definitely help make this dance more memorable and heart-felt.
